Dr Qiuye Cheng

Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon, MBBS MS BMed Sci FRACS

Dr. Qiuye Cheng is a Sydney based upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgeon with extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Cheng specialises in metabolic, weight loss surgical treatment and the management of upper gastrointestinal cancers as well as non-cancer conditions like reflux, hiatal hernias and achalasia. Reflecting his experience in bariatric surgery, Dr. Cheng is an accredited Bariatric Surgeon of Excellence.  He also offers a full range of surgical treatments for gallbladder related diseases, complex hernias and endoscopy, colonoscopy.

Dr. Cheng currently holds consultations at St. George Private Hospital and operates at St. George Private, East Sydney Private, Kareena Private Hospital in Sydney and Tamara Private Hospital (Tamworth).

Dr. Cheng grew up in a multi-cultural environment, having resided in China, Canada, United States, Hong Kong and Singapore. He migrated to Australia for University and completed his medical degree at The University of Sydney in 2010. He has also completed a Masters of Surgery in upper gastrointestinal surgery at The University of Sydney in 2016. Dr. Cheng underwent accredited surgical training at Westmead Hospital, obtaining his Surgical Fellowship with The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2018. Since then, he has dedicated four years of post-fellowship sub-speciality training in upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery through well-recognised high volume centres at St. George Hospital in Sydney and St. Vincent Hospital in Melbourne.

Dr. Cheng maintains a strong commitment and passion for education and research. He holds conjoint lecturer positions with The University of Sydney and University of Western Sydney medical schools. From a research perspective, He has consistently contributed to the existing body of literature, having published widely in his sub-speciality fields of bariatric and upper gastrointestinal surgery. Through regular conference presentations, he remains an active member of his sub-specialty specific international and national societies (including the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders, Australia and New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society)
