The SGOS Bariatric Care Program
Our Long term Commitment to You
Here at St George Obesity Surgery (Sydney), we understand your battle with weight and the long term struggles that comes with it. Surgery or weight loss interventions should just be the beginning of your journey and we are here to support you all the way.
Our Bariatric Care Program provides comprehensive pre- and post-operative education and ongoing life-long aftercare for our patients undergoing bariatric surgery. Having surgery through us, automatically enrolled you into our Bariatric Care Program.
This means that you will always have access to Dr Cheng and our bariatric team through our regular follow ups and when ever you need us
What Our Bariatric Care Includes?
Sometimes viewed more important than surgery, there is evidence to show that long term follow up is crucial in helping you stay focused on losing weight and keeping the weight off over time.
Following surgery, you will undergo planned follow-ups within the first year at two weeks, three, six, nine, and twelve months. Within the second year, there will be follow-ups scheduled every six months. Beyond two years, we continue yearly bariatric-related appointments being bulk billed with no additional expenses*.
At each follow up/ consultation, Dr Cheng will review your nutritional bloods, assess your weight loss and also check for any unwanted surgery side effects. It is also a safe haven to discuss any other non-related bariatric surgical concerns you may have.
Being part of our bariatric care program means that you always have life-long access to dietary support through our dietitian.
A bariatric nutritionist plays a crucial role in the multidisciplinary care team that looks after you before and after surgery. Their responsibilities encompass a range of tasks aimed at ensuring optimal nutritional status, promoting weight loss, and supporting long-term health. Here are the key roles of a bariatric nutritionist:

We provide psychological counselling to prepare patients for the diet and exercise program essential for successful weight loss management. Psychological counselling may be needed to enhance your success during your weight loss journey.
Our psychologists offer counselling services to individuals in our Bariatric Care Program and motivate effective results.
Exercise is a very important part of a successful bariatric surgery to achieve your desired body. A regular exercise program helps in reaching and maintaining optimal weight loss. Exercise training helps preserve lean body mass, increase energy, tighten loose skin caused by rapid weight loss, and make you feel better. Soon after surgery, you will begin walking. Get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day.
Our partnered exercise physiologists are available to offer a personal training program for each individual patient to achieve the best possible goals.
